Established in 2002, the Community One Stop Shop (COSS) is situated in the heart of Broomhouse, Edinburgh, an area affected by poverty and deprivation.
Our overall aim is to alleviate the effects of poverty and support people through times of crisis.
What we do
Advice: We can help with benefit enquiries and applications, housing issues and other welfare matters. We are able to carry out both telephone and in-person appointments.
Employability: We offer telephone appointments with an employment adviser who can provide you with support in building your CV, finding and applying for jobs, and general employment guidance.
Food Bank: We operate a self-referral food bank, which means that you do not have to get a referral from a professional in order to get a food parcel. This ensures that we can provide support to people who may not be accessing other services, or who do not have the ability to request a referral.
Pantry: We operate a community Pantry on a membership basis and membership is currently full. Membership fees are put towards purchasing food and household goods to the benefit of members. Members are able to select at least 10 items from the Pantry shelves, with a retail value of between £20-£25, in return for £3.50 per visit.
Outreach: We also deliver our Food Bank and advice services at the Calder’s Community Flat in Edinburgh
Ancillary Services: We offer additional services including these C-Card, free sanitary product provision, and Holiday support programmes with local schools. During the Coronvirus outbreak, we will not be rolling out the Holiday Support Programme until further notice.
Funders: We would like to thank our funders for supporting our work and enabling us to make a difference in the local community.
Partners: Below are a small selection of organisations who have partnered with us throughout the past year. Some are regular donors to our food bank, and others help us to support our clients in a variety of ways. All are champions of change in our local community. We are grateful to them all and hope to build on each relationship, and create new ones, in the coming year.
This past year has been one of growth and development for the Community One Stop Shop. As the need for our services increase, we hope to meet that need and continue to serve the people of Broomhouse and beyond.
Community One Stop Shop (the SCIO) is a Scottish Charity, No. SC049181, and regulated by OSCR.
