The Foodbank
Our foodbank has been an essential source of support for many in our community since it opened in 2012. During the financial insecurity of the pandemic, the foodbank saw a massive spike in usage. Although this fell once lockdown restrictions eased, we are already seeing another rise as the cost of living soars and families are finding it harder to manage their financial resources.
Our foodbank operates on a non-referral basis, meaning that anyone is in financial crisis is welcome to make use of the service.
In addition to providing essential groceries, the foodbank also houses a community table offering household items and surplus foodbank stock. People can help themselves to any items they choose. This has proved to be a good way of reducing waste, and making sure that food items near the end of their shelf life are used and not wasted.

What our clients say

‘My mental health has taken a massive dip through the stress of dealing with my situation. It helps to know there are places I can go when I’m really struggling.’

‘I sometimes feel that there are people who need it more than me, but when I look at my cupboards and see how empty they are, I know that I need the help as well.’
Q&A
Who can use the foodbank?
The foodbank is for people who are in crisis and need assistance to feed their family. You do not need to have a referral to use our service.
What can I get from the foodbank?
You will be given a bag of basic groceries containing staples such as tins, pasta, jars of sauce, toilet roll, cereal and milk. We are sometimes able to offer extras such as biscuits, fresh fruit and veg and animal food, depending on what we has been donated.
How often can I visit?
Every 4 weeks you will be able to receive a bag of essential groceries. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, contact us and see what additional assistance we are able to provide.
Do you provide household items?
No. We occasionally receive donations of household provisions which we might be able to offer, however this cannot be guaranteed. The Community Table sometimes has household items which are free to take.
What questions will you ask me?
We will complete a form each time you visit the foodbank. This helps us to learn more about the people using the service and makes sure we are making it accessible for the people who use it most.
We will ask about how many people are in your household and whether you are currently working. There is the opportunity to tell us about other issues that might be affecting your circumstances and you can ask us about accessing the other services we provide.
All your information will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
